Network-1 Technologies Initiates Patent Litigation Against Samsung Over eSIM and 5G Technology

Network-1 Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: NTIP), an intellectual property investment and licensing company, has started a patent infringement lawsuit against Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. and Samsung Electronics America, Inc. The case was filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas on June 27, 2025 (Case No. 2:25-cv-00667).

The litigation alleges that Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches infringe six patents within Network-1’s M2M/IoT patent portfolio (U.S. Patent No. 11,233,780, U.S. Patent No. 11.916,893, U.S. Patent No. 12,207,094, U.S. Patent No. 12,166,869, U.S. Patent No.11,606,204, and U.S. Patent No. 11.973,864). These patents cover key enabling technologies related to embedded Subscriber Identification Module (eSIM) and 5G network authentication, which are key components in today’s Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem and next-generation mobile communications.

Background and Significance
Network-1 acquired the M2M/IoT patent portfolio in December 2017, which includes 41 U.S. patents and 15 international patents. The portfolio covers a wide array of patented technologies focused on machine-to-machine communication, Internet of Things devices, and secure network authentication, particularly in connection with emerging 5G standards and eSIM implementations.

The lawsuit asserts that Samsung’s accused products, which comply with GSMA and ETSI industry standards, utilize these patented technologies without authorization. Network-1 is seeking to enforce its intellectual property rights and obtain appropriate remedies through the courts.

This legal action marks a continuation of Network-1’s efforts to monetize its patent assets, following its history of successful licensing and enforcement. Notably, Network-1 settled previous litigation with Samsung in 2015 related to its Remote Power Patent.
